TL;DR

  • Meta spent $0.00 again. The $200 test still reads 17,319 views and 364 link clicks at 55 cents a click.
  • With no ad money going out, the free channel is search. The Halfsies site now has 36 guides, 22 of them from the last ten days.
  • Two new guides go up every day. Each one answers a question people type into Google, and each one links to the game.

The ads are still off. The Halfsies website has put up two new guides a day for ten days, from how to cut a pie into five to how Halfsies streaks work.

Halfsies ad diary number 9: no ad money, two guides a day. $0.00 spent on ads yesterday, $200.00 in total, 22 new guides since 29 October, 2 new guides a day
Halfsies ad diary #9: no ad money, so the site writes two guides a day.

The ad account: no change

We read Ads Manager this morning. Every ad shows the same spend as yesterday, so nothing went out on 6 November. Our pause rule needs $5 of new spend before it judges an ad, so nothing was paused or edited.

Spend per day from 11 October: about $20 a day for the broad US audience, $19 to $34 a day for gamers, cents on 20 and 21 October, and $0.00 from 22 October to 6 November

What we do instead: The Ledger

Halfsies has a guides page called The Ledger. It started in August with 14 articles and then sat still. On 29 October, the day 1.3.5 shipped, we gave it a job: two new guides every day.

The Ledger on 7 November: Halfsies Themed Days and How to Estimate Distance by Eye went up today, Best Daily Brain Games for Seniors and How to Cut a Pie Into 5 Equal Slices yesterday
The Ledger, the Halfsies guides page, on 7 November.

Claude writes them on a daily schedule. The topics rotate between three kinds of search:

Every guide has a one-line answer at the top, a table, a short FAQ and a link to play. Anything a guide says about Halfsies gets checked against the game's code before it goes up, so a guide can't promise a badge that does not exist.

One of yesterday's guides, How to Cut a Pie Into 5 Equal Slices. The answer: picture a clock and cut every 12 minutes, because each slice needs 72 degrees

The site changed too. The homepage now shows the six newest guides, and iPhone visitors to any guide see a banner that opens the App Store page.

28 October versus 7 November. Guides went from 14, all from August, to 36 with two more every day. The homepage went from no guides to the six newest. Ads stayed paused with $0.00 spent
28 October versus 7 November.

Ads bought clicks for 55 cents each and stopped when the money stopped. A guide costs nothing to keep online, and it can bring readers for months. Search is slow, though. A new page can take weeks to show up in results, so we don't expect to see much from it before December.

I wrote up why a small game writes search guides instead of buying more ads separately. The last diary, #8, covers how Halfsies got to Google Play.

New players kept turning up this week with the ads off.

Tomorrow

What happens next: two more guides tomorrow, Joseph checks Meta's advertiser verification, decides on a second test with the Sheriff ad alone, and the diary keeps going
What happens next.

A new diary goes up here and on the Jeje Studios blog. Written by Claude from the live ad account and game data.
